How Isaac Noriega Took Over The Sierra Vista Church - Christ Tabernacle

In this article, we will shed light on a series of controversial actions taken by Pastor Isaac Noriega and the GDT Leadership team leading up to and in the aftermath of Pastor Danny Rojas' untimely death. The actions included the acquisition of Christ Tabernacle Church properties, its subsequent dissolution, questionable eviction of the late pastor's widow from the parsonage, and manipulation of the majority of the congregation to either join the Golden Dawn Tabernacle in Tucson or risk excommunication. This unfortunate incident paints a grim picture of Pastor Isaac Noriega's tactics, illustrating his use of gaslighting, inciting discord among families, and his apparent disregard for a person he once considered a friend. Many of these incidents have been masked and denied by former members, causing a rupture in a formerly harmonious church community, dividing families, and leading to life changing financial devastation for some.

Interview with Sister Andrea Rojas

We have communicated with Sister Andrea Rojas and gained her consent to publicly acknowledge her as a witness to certain incidents described in this article. It's essential to recognize the immense distress and suffering she has endured as a result of these events. We commend her courage and readiness to confront Isaac Noriega and share her experiences publicly. Her testimony serves as a basis for understanding how the Sierra Vista church was taken over, the manipulative tactics that were used, and the subsequent fallout in this article. We use her testimony along with other anonymous sources, and public records to document this incident.

Christ Tabernacle History

The former Christ Tabernacle Church, located in Huachuca City, Arizona, had been a staple in the local community for numerous decades. The late Pastor Daniel D. Rojas, also known as Danny/Dan Rojas, led this church, with his wife Andrea Y. Rojas serving as the First Lady. Both Pastor Danny and Pastor Isaac shared similar religious backgrounds, coming from the Apostolic Church, with Danny founding Christ Tabernacle in 1976 and also having a history of service in the United States Army.

Due to its close vicinity to Sierra Vista, it was often referred to as the Sierra Vista Church by members of Golden Dawn Tabernacle / Tabernaculo Emanuel. It was also considered a sister church going back several decades due to the friendship between both pastors. Sister Andrea told us that Isaac would regularly phone Brother Danny Rojas, mostly in the mornings or evenings, consistently over the years, seeking solace and venting. It can be safely said that the Rojas family developed a deeply personal understanding of Isaac Noriega and his family. Mrs. Rojas shared her long-term behind the scenes observations of Isaac's narcissistic tendencies and repeated poor treatment of others.

The congregation, though small, numbering approximately 40-60, was largely made up of extended family. Given the frequent intra-church marriages, it wouldn't be an overstatement to say that almost all members were related in some way. This led to an exceptionally close-knit community, where despite occasional familial disagreements, the bond between members was unique and strong, given the intimacy of their tight-knit community.

Aftermath of Pastor's Death

Prior to his death from heart failure on June 1, 2010, Pastor Danny Rojas entrusted his church and wife to Isaac, confident in the belief that Isaac, as a close friend, would prioritize their wellbeing. At least, this was the picture that Isaac Noriega painted for the congregation. We have received reports that Danny Rojas actually regretted placing his confidence and trust in Isaac and stated as such to his family, prior to passing away. However, in the absence of a clear leader or authority figure, Christ Church readily accepted Isaac as an unofficial and remote interim pastor, given that he owned the church. Isaac Noriega delegated the preaching and ministry duties at Christ Tabernacle to John Chacon (now deceased) or Robert Chacon Jr. (current elder, former deacon), while the congregation would listen to recorded sermons of William Branham. Despite expressing to some churchgoers his consideration to move to Sierra Vista to pastor the church out of his fondness for the people there, Robert Chacon Jr. never made the move. This was likely because it contradicted Isaac's broader plan.

Upon the death of Danny Rojas, Sister Andrea wished to post an obituary in the newspaper. However, Isaac Noriega disallowed it, wishing to keep the news within their two churches. We noticed a similar approach with the recent passing of his sister (Sister Martha Espitia), where the online obituary listed by the funeral service was promptly removed by Isaac. An archived copy of the obituary is available here before its removal from the funeral website . This pattern could be aimed at preventing non-churchgoing family members from learning about the death and potentially attending the funeral, given the generally disapproving attitude towards, and in some recent instances, outright prohibition of, non-church attendees.

Numerous anonymous sources have shared that the GDT Leadership prompted the leadership of Christ Tabernacle to quietly persuade church members to sign a petition supporting the relocation of the church to GDT in Tucson, effectively bringing it entirely under Isaac's control. This seemingly democratic action was used to disarm any resistance to the move and was presented as justification. It is alleged that Pastor Isaac Noriega clandestinely planned this move to give the impression of it being a voluntary decision. Per our sources, Isaac communicated to various individuals at Christ Tabernacle that God had shown him the path for Christ Tabernacle to relocate to Tucson. Ironically, a secretive and somewhat biased "ballot" referendum was conducted behind the backs of significant church leaders to pressure any dissenters, leading them to believe they were outnumbered. These manipulative maneuvers seem more indicative of a narcissist's scheming rather than divine intervention. This behavior, however, wouldn't come as a shock to anyone who truly knows Isaac Noriega.

The following properties play a significant role in shaping the subsequent events of the church.

Christ Tabernacle Properties

Christ Tabernacle previously owned 2 properties. The primary church property and the parsonage / new church construction property.

Parcels 106-24-165 & 106-24-166: This was the primary church property. These parcels are located at 320 E Old Church Rd, Huachuca City, AZ 85616. Below are some recent pictures of the church exterior.

Parcel 10604110A: Situated at 2472 N Appaloosa Place in Huachuca City, AZ 85616, lies a 4.57-acre parcel. This particular property holds great significance as it served as the home of Danny and Andrea Rojas, and also witnessed the construction of a brand new church. Notably according to Sis Andrea, Isaac Noriega provided multiple monetary gifts, to support this construction endeavor. In fact, he even expressed his wish for the new church building to be completed in time for his birthday. Photos below show the ground breaking of the new church.

Transfer of Christ Tabernacle Ownership to Tabernaculo Emanuel (Golden Dawn Tabernacle)

The Christ Tabernacle Properties were transferred over to Tabernaculo Emanuel on February 28, 2011. The Christ Tabernacle Church Trustees that signed off on this transaction were: Samuel Rojas (son of Danny & Andrea Rojas), Thomas Hall, Paul Bonilla and Kenneth Sherwood.

A pertinent question that arises is: why did Tabernaculo Emanuel opt to acquire the properties of Christ Tabernacle? The subsequent developments could provide insight into the underlying intentions of this acquisition.

Christ Tabernacle Church Exodus into GDT

In 2011, leveraging the prevailing real estate market, GDT Leadership purchased several homes at very affordable rates and used these properties to lure Christ Tabernacle members to Tucson. While these homes came with loans that needed repayment, they were interest-free due to the non-profit church organization's status, which could be jeopardized by profiting from interest charges.

The first family that relocated to Tucson in May 2011 was the Rojas family. They bought one of Isaac Noriega's previous residences, mentioned in a previous article, located at 3491 W Mockingbird Ln, Tucson, AZ 85713 (Parcel 119-31-022P). The intriguing part of this transaction was the legal process. Tabernaculo Emanuel transferred the property to Samuel Rojas for a price of $400,000 via a quitclaim deed. The sum of $400,000 was provided as an interest-free loan by Isaac and Matthew Noriega through a warranty deed. This meant that if Samuel failed to repay the loan, the property would revert to Isaac and Matthew Noriega, not the church. The public record documents related to this transaction are shown below.

While it does sounds very charitable for GDT leadership to provide interest-free loans and homes to new church members, the reality is that this "generosity" comes at a steep cost of coming under the control of Isaac Noriega and GDT Leadership. If you decide to leave the church or are blacklisted by the church, you could be forced to leave your home via eviction or would need to pay off the church completely in order to get some semblance of control back in your life.

This is a stark reminder to those that want to leave GDT: do everything in your power to not be under the financial control of Isaac Noriega and GDT Leadership.

The relocation did not sit well with everyone, leading to an unfortunate division within the Christ Tabernacle. This resulted in the church being disbanded, and all assets, including church pews, musical instruments, and other possessions, were transferred to the GDT school.

Exerting Control Over Christ Tabernacle Church Members

The forced relocation to Tucson led to a significant rift within Christ Tabernacle, particularly amongst the deacon board members who disagreed with the move. Since the church split and things did not proceed according to Isaac Noriega's plan, he resorted to threatening dissenters with excommunication.

Once the move was completed, Isaac Noriega began to exercise 'headship' laws over the women from Christ Tabernacle, demanding his permission for even the most mundane tasks. According to Andrea Rojas, she was prohibited from performing basic tasks such as grocery shopping, attending doctor's appointments, or running simple errands without securing Isaac Noriega's approval. The fear of defying Isaac's dictates was especially prominent among the women. Andrea recounts an incident where, after she resisted Isaac, her daughters were petrified that she had crossed an unreturnable threshold. She even reported that her daughters essentially became informants for Isaac Noriega, reporting any actions taken by Andrea that didn't have his approval.

There was also a considerable culture shock for the members of Christ Tabernacle Church who relocated to GDT. Many were not aware of the stringent, legalistic church rules that GDT Church members were expected to adhere to until after they moved to Tucson. For instance, Sam Rojas' family was forbidden from having guests at their home on Mockingbird Lane, with the sole exception being members of Isaac Noriega's family. Their actions were continuously monitored by members of Isaac's family living on Mockingbird Lane, and they were questioned incessantly. It's reported they eventually regretted moving to this home and sold it to escape this unreasonable control.

Moreover, those who either refused to move or later left GDT were subjected to extreme character defamation and quickly excommunicated. For instance, after Andrea Rojas left the church, she was accused of being demon-possessed due to her alleged ownership of a pet snake. According to Sister Andrea, Isaac was so angry at her leaving the church, that he cancelled his own birthday celebration that year. According to former members, Isaac also publicly manipulated her perception from the pulpit, insinuating she was mentally unstable. He suggested that Brother Danny Rojas would have been appalled had he seen her transformation after his death. How a pastor could stoop so low to target a vulnerable woman who had lost so much is beyond comprehension. In our opinion, such behavior can only be attributed to the fury of a narcissistic, ruthless, and malevolent individual.

Isaac Noriega Claimed Noriega Name Would Be Largest Family Name In Church After Christ Tabernacle Church Consolidation

According to Andrea Rojas, Isaac once boasted to her that that once the Sierra Vista church move to Tucson was complete, then the Noriega family name would finally be bigger than the Chacon family in the church. He appeared to be implying that he would have a larger gene pool to leverage for marrying off his family members. However, this did not come into fruition as Isaac was only able to marry off one of his nephews to a Christ Tabernacle Church member.

Eviction of Late Pastor's Widow Andrea Rojas

On August 4, 2011, Andrea Rojas was forced to leave the Christ Tabernacle Parsonage home, where she had resided for several years. This step was taken to urge her to relocate to Tucson along with the rest of the Rojas family. She was left with the harsh choices of either becoming homeless or moving to Tucson. The eviction letter from the Christ Tabernacle leadership can be found below, in which they threatened her with a 72-hour eviction, a move that raises legal concerns.

In Arizona, the notice period required for eviction varies depending on the situation and the nature of the tenancy. Typically, if there is no written lease or rental agreement, the tenancy is generally considered to be month-to-month.

For month-to-month tenancy in Arizona, either the landlord or the tenant can terminate the agreement by giving a written notice. As per Arizona law, at least a 30-day written notice is necessary to end the tenancy from either the landlord or the tenant. This implies that your landlord, if intending to evict you, would generally need to provide you with a written notice at least 30 days prior to the termination date specified in the notice. This is quite different from the approach adopted by the Christ Tabernacle leadership, raising questions about the legality of their actions. The chances are that their actions were not legally permissible and definitely not ethical. It's likely that these actions were conducted under Isaac Noriega's influence given that he was the owner of Christ Tabernacle (doing business under Tabernaculo Emanuel).

Note that the eviction letter was signed by Paul Bonilla, Thomas (Tom) Hall, Samuel Rojas, and Kenneth Sherwood. These men ought to be ashamed of themselves for this cruel, inhumane, and questionably legal action.

Note: Kenneth Sherwood relocated to Tucson but chose to part ways with GDT after a short period, an action that led to his immediate expulsion. It's highly probable that his decision was due to the extremist, legalistic church rules in place at GDT, which were so different from the previous church that he refused to tolerate them.

The Aftermath - Getting Rid of Christ Tabernacle Properties

Post the split and migration, the property located at 2472 N Appaloosa Pl was sold to non-church members, with the church providing them a loan. This property currently serves as a stable for horses. However, issues arose between GDT and the new owners regarding payments. Dissatisfied with the treatment by GDT Leadership, the new owners managed to secure a loan from a bank, thus releasing themselves from GDT Church officials' control.

The property at 320 E Old Church Rd was transferred to a former church member. Samuel Rojas contacted this former member, informing him that Golden Dawn Tabernacle / Tabernaculo Emanuel no longer wished to retain this property and were willing to donate it to anyone willing to take it over and cover the unpaid taxes. Consequently, the individual gained ownership of the property. The motivation behind GDT Leadership's decision to relinquish the property raises questions. Our suspicion is that GDT aimed to disassociate from the Christ Tabernacle properties because Christ Tabernacle was registered as a 501c3 organization. This association could potentially necessitate GDT Leadership to disclose their financial documents due to mandatory legal disclosures associated with 501c3 registration. We intend to probe this issue further and, should we unearth any clear illegal activities, we are prepared to take legal action with the support of our legal team.

Conclusion

We find ourselves compelled to question: what was the true objective behind the takeover of Christ Tabernacle? Could it have been to broaden the gene pool to provide Pastor Isaac Noriega's family with increased marital prospects? Or to boost the tithing revenue to the church? Or perhaps to strengthen Pastor Isaac Noriega's control over the Christ Tabernacle congregation? Regardless of the aim, the ramifications were severe and life-altering, resulting in deep and enduring scars. Families were irreparably fractured and damaged, and lives were upended and traumatized. Isaac may regret the move given the scandals and troubles it has caused him, but we must not let him evade accountability that easily.

Did Pastor Isaac Noriega's scheme backfire? Should he feel remorse for the dubious tactics he and the GDT Church leadership employed to manipulate the Christ Tabernacle Church members into conforming to his desires? Is Isaac Noriega a failed pastor, an unethical and manipulative old man who's alone, intent on making the lives of his congregation as miserable as his own? We need to question whether he genuinely represents God. Does his speech convey revelation or does it reflect regression, hypocrisy, and disdain? Is he a man deserving of followership?

Moreover, we cannot overlook the complete lack of respect and honesty towards a supposed friend's dying wish. His treatment of the family and congregation would undoubtedly have Danny Rojas turning in his grave. The fact that the former church sanctuary now serves as a home to horses seems to poignantly symbolize Isaac's treatment towards Christ Church. We urge GDT Church members to contemplate these questions and decide for themselves whether they wish to continue their lives within the confines of the Golden Dawn Tabernacle or explore a more fulfilling alternative that promises freedom and happiness.

As a former member of Christ Tabernacle from birth who did NOT in fact make the move or crumble under the threat of being excommunicated out of fear, thank you for your series on this matter. I would like to state that if the objective was to “blend” the two churches together in marriages, there were several of us who in fact have Chacon blood in us from the SV church. But I’m sure Isaac wouldn’t have appreciated us being there anyway. Not exactly a humbling family in his mind, we would not have “fit the mold”! Keep doing the work you’re doing. I was told of this blog. I attended Christ tabernacle for many years and can clearly see this article is one only to attack Isaac and continue to assassinate his character. I left the church and chose not to move. That was my choice. Daniel Rojas was a man very similar to Isaac (born under the same sign) very rough characters but huge hearts. Everyone attending Christ tabernacle knew the condition of Andrea and the way she treated her own husband. When Dan had his heartattack he gave instructions to his officials and Isaac concerning the church which they followed out. I understand the purpose of this website is to “expose” (ridicule) a man and his congregation’s beliefs, however there is two sides to every story and the story you portrayed here is a one sided biased story meant to continue to destroy a man. So in that you are doing a wonderful job. However the people of Christ tabernacle know the whole story. I chose to leave because I don’t believe like them. I disagree with Isaac and his church, but that is there beliefs not mine.

“If I were to remain silent, I’d be guilty of complicity.” This statement rings true for so many of the articles the research team has put together. This is one of them. Those of you who think Isaac’s “out from the blood” ritual is legit needs to go watch a Harry Potter movie. If you think that Isaac can control the Blood of Christ over your lives need to read the Gospel. Ephesians 1:7 says, “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.” Because of Christ’s shed blood, God is able to forgive us of sins because He took our punishment. How did Isaac think he could just take over a congregation that was not his? and then make apostates of the smart ones not willing to give this narcissist the control he’s become addicted to.

It’s so sad to hear how sister Andrea was treated does not the Bible say for the widows to be taken care of? This is not our home sister and know that you are loved where ever you may be.

And it gives no one the right to separate families, and plant discord among the members. That is fundamentally wrong. The EX-Members seem to be fed up with Isaac controlling the people like property and are becoming to woke to Isaac being the sole proprietor of every single penny and piece of real property. So if this site is “fact checking” and “researching”; where are the interviews with former officials or other family members. Good journalism always makes the effort before publishing, otherwise its this site that is “trolling” and trying to push buttons in an effort to discredit others and justify their own lives. It is apparent that basic tenants of the scripture are not even understood or practiced by those publishing to this blog; much less the interpretations or intents of the laws of the land.

You don’t lie? well there are numerous lies published here. Fact checking is a farce here. You tolerate others? Do you believe in the basic tenants of scripture or do you bend them for your own shortcomings? Do you believe in gay unions? Do you believe in premarital sex? There is not even shown the wisdom of Nicodemus here. Nicodemus at least had the sense to tell his fellow Pharisees to leave Jesus alone, because if it was of man then it will come to nothing, but if it is of God then you will find yourself going against God.

You feel like you are attacking a man, but are you really? Will not God be the final judge of what you do and say as well as any other person, including a pastor or deacon or elder or any other person that professes to believe scripture.

How do you now they didn’t interview members of that church? I believe there have been several attempts to reach out to officials of Golden Dawn Tabernacle/Tabernaculo Emanuel, but they refuse to comment. So until they are ready to talk, the only side of the story that the research team can obtain are those that are willing to speak out. And the public documents obtained from public cites.
